VIDEO: PACQUIAO fights for U.S. textile and Philippine apparel workers

S. 3170/H.R. 3039, the SAVE Our Industries Act, introduced on March 25, 2010 by Senators Daniel Inouye and Christopher Bond and on June 25, 2009 by Congressman Jim McDermott and Brian Bilbray, help revitalize the United States textile and Philippine apparel industries.

Initial estimates from industry groups such as the American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) and the Confederation of Garment Exporters of the Philippines (CONGEP) indicate that this legislation will:

  • Save and create thousands of jobs in the US textile manufacturing and Philippine apparel sewing industries
  • Provide for the first time a meaningful opportunity for US textile manufacturers to export fabrics to Asia
  • Increase the number of export-related jobs in the U.S. textile industry by some five percent, and lead up to $500 million in new U.S. textile exports.

Built on strong and long-standing historical security ties and political relations, the SAVE Act is win-win legislation that would be the first significant Philippine-US economic cooperation initiative in decades.

Please write your Senators and U.S. Representatives to co-sponsor this important bill and help assure its enactment.
